A construction zone is outside my building, and it got me thinking.
Going through a divorce is like going through construction.
Sometimes, there is minor renovation, but there is pain involved, as
things are pulled off, or hammered home.
Sometimes you get leveled - everything you know is taken right down to
the foundation, and you have to build from there.
Construction zones are tricky.
It's important that there are signs that plainly mark the danger -
there are nails, boards, potholes, and hazards everywhere. If only we
could see the dangers in our lives as easily!
When you are going through a divorce, you are at your most vulnerable.
Your normally keen sense of danger is dulled by the blurriness of
lack of sleep, stress, and everything being turned upside down.
The safest thing to do during a separation and divorce is put up
fences - to protect yourself! Set up good boundaries. No dating -
no, not at all, and don't even put yourself in that environment. If
you have well meaning friends that are trying to find you the next Mr.
or Mrs. Right, set them straight. It's construction time. NO
TRESPASSING!!
You have to look at what you have. What's left? What can you make of
what you have? Where do you go from here?
Well, first, pull out the blueprint - the Word of God. Then talk to
the Foreman- your Heavenly Father. He has the plan for you, and He
will show you how to put it back together.
You may have to rebuild. You may need some help - that's what the
Body is for. The church is your habitat for your humanity.
Most importantly, you have to wear personal protective gear to stay
safe while you are in the construction environment - the whole armor
of God.
Ephesians 6:10-18
New King James Version (NKJV)
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His
might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of
wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole
armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and
having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on
the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with
the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the
shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery
darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with
all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end
with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Construction takes time. Sometimes you get frustrated, have to adjust
- but keep talking to the Foreman, and He will lead you to safety.
