I missed last week's newsletter - I threw my back out and have been out of commission for almost two weeks. It's been a trying time, and I am still on the mend. Your prayers are appreciated.
Last night the singles went to a farm team baseball game - it was a great time, and I'm glad we had some of the divorce recovery members show up.
Keep getting out there, setting small goals - my weekly goal is to go to the beach and have gone three weeks in a row. It has been positively therapeutic! Set a goal and meet it. It may be the shining light of your week!
This week our daughter graduated high school. Thursday we went to the baccalaureate, and Charlie Ward was the speaker. I frankly had no clue who he was. His speech was okay. But when I googled him - wow! He has a list of accolades and awards that are mind blowing! Google NBA player Charlie Ward. He was drafted to play football. Baseball, and basketball professionally - and chose basketball, despite being the Heisman trophy winner (that's for college football, for the non sporty types):
Ward was a model student-athlete at Florida State. As a senior and captain of the team in 1993, he voluntarily approached Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden about a difficult situation surrounding incoming freshman Warrick Dunn, whose mother, policewoman Betty Smothers, was killed in the line of duty during Dunn's senior year of high school inBaton Rouge, Louisiana. Charlie served as a surrogate big brother to Dunn during the latter's first year in Tallahassee, helping him through a trying time by becoming his roommate and friend. With Ward's help on and off the field, Dunn eventually became one of the better running backs in the country and a first round NFL draft pick.
What an inspiration!
